Nico Williams’ first call-up to the Spanish national team for their September friendlies against Switzerland and Portugal is a major setback for Ghana.
One of the players the Ghana Football Association was determined to persuade to play for Ghana’s senior national side, the Black Stars, was Inaki Williams’ brother.
The highly regarded forward, 20, had already represented Spain’s youth squad, but it was uncertain whether he would be selected for the senior national team.
Three rookies are included in coach Luis Enrique’s team for the two games, including Nico Williams.
Inaki Williams, his brother, made the decision to represent the Black Stars official in August after completing the process of changing his nationality.
Sergio Ramos, a former captain, and Ansu Fati, a player for Barcelona, were not included in the coach’s most recent roster.
Nico Williams stated that he was focused on his club career at Athletico Bilbao and will make a decision about his international career at the appropriate moment in an interview with TV3 while visiting Ghana.
This could could set as confidence boost for Nico and he could make the squad many times. This would leave Ghana FA in the mad. Nico Williams can still switch nationality because this is a friendly call up.
